Is Your Car Insured During Transport? A Plain Guide

"Don't worry, it's insured" is the most dangerous sentence in this business. Here's what cover actually means on a Pakistani carrier.

Insured car transport in Pakistan

Insurance is the part of car transport everyone assumes is handled and almost nobody reads. Then a bumper gets clipped at a Multan yard and suddenly "it's insured" turns into "that's not what the policy says." We've paid out on real claims since 2014, so we'd rather you understand the cover before you book than discover the gaps after.

Our car transport service includes written transit insurance on every load — this guide explains what that line actually buys you.

Yes — But Get It in Writing

A genuine carrier includes transit insurance from pickup to delivery, usually up to a standard declared value. The catch: a spoken "it's insured" over the phone is not a policy. You want it on the booking confirmation — the perils covered, the declared value, and the excess. No paper, no proof.

What's Actually Covered

The standard perils on a carrier transit policy are:

  • Accidental damage during loading, transit, or unloading
  • Theft of the vehicle while in the carrier's care
  • Fire or a road incident involving the trailer

It covers the car's declared value. It does not cover the laptop in the boot or the scratch you already noted at pickup.

The Excess and the Declared Value

Two numbers matter. The declared value is the cap the insurer will pay — set it honestly to the car's worth, not rock-bottom to save a few rupees. The excess is what you pay on a valid claim, like any motor policy. Ask both before you book; a suspiciously cheap cover often hides a brutal excess.

High-Value and Modified Cars

A standard rate covers a standard car up to the usual value. A rebuilt classic, a supercar, or a heavily modified rig may need a small extra premium tied to its true worth. Tell us upfront — declaring it later, after damage, is a fight you'll lose.

If Something Goes Wrong

The process is simple but unforgiving on timing. Note the damage on the delivery condition report before you sign. Photograph it. Tell the coordinator the same day. A clean signature closes the file — inspect first, sign second. We've settled claims this way for a decade; the discipline is what makes them pay.

Your Own Policy Probably Doesn't

Many motor-insurance policies exclude "carriage by road" or cover only the driver's negligence, not a third-party carrier's. Don't assume your existing cover responds — the carrier's transit policy is the one that actually pays on a transport claim. Check with your insurer if you're unsure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is car transport insured in Pakistan?

Reputable carriers include transit insurance from pickup to delivery, normally up to a standard declared value. Always confirm it in writing — a verbal 'it's insured' is not cover. Sohail Brothers includes it on every load.

What does transit insurance cover?

The usual perils are accident damage from loading or transit, theft of the vehicle, and fire. It covers the car's declared value, not personal items left inside. Pre-existing marks noted on the condition report are excluded by definition.

How much is car transport insurance?

For standard vehicles it's built into the rate. Very high-value cars may carry a small extra premium tied to the declared amount. Ask the excess — that's the portion you pay on a valid claim.

What if my car is damaged during transport?

Note it on the delivery condition report before signing, photograph it, and inform the carrier the same day. A clean signature makes a later claim much harder, so inspect first, sign second.

Is carrier insurance mandatory in Pakistan?

There's no single law forcing every operator to insure your car, which is exactly why you must check. Using a registered company that includes written transit cover is the only real protection.

Does my own car insurance cover transport?

Often not for carrier transit — many motor policies exclude 'carriage by road' or only cover the driver's own negligence. Check with your insurer; the carrier's transit policy is the one that actually responds.
